I don't have much to add to this discussion, except to say that if you really like the 103/103R you owe it to yourself to listen to a Zu Audio DL-103 II in either 103 or 103R configuration.
I've been listening to both the 103 and 103R for several years and love them both, but my Zu DL-103 II is a revelation. It just takes what the standard version does and multiplies it. I grew weary of the one-upmanship game that many cartridge manufacturers have been playing, and luckily discovered the good ol' trusty 103 and its subtypes. I won't be going back unless something truly better comes on the scene, and I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.
And yes, as another Inmate stated, the ancillary equipment is very important when using one of the 103's. I've tried lots of ancillaries and have settled on the Auditorium 23 (standard) SUT running through a MM version of the EAR 834P phono stage. Pure bliss to my ears, and my ears are all that count, at least to me ;-)
Cheers
