RE: Is the 1" thick Super the best size for your arm?

I couldn't wait to sell the SME III that came with my MK IV and the buyer wanted the Super Armboard so I began to play around with various materials, settling on Walnut.

THe Super was designed for the ET-II and some others but I found that a variety of arms with the 1 1/2" thick MK IV platter were not ideal. In the case of the RB-250 which needed a mortise to operate the cueing and JMW 9, unpossible. Too high.

I had a look at the String Woody and it looks fairly tall like the JMW and Audio Technica AT-1005. For those arms and the RB-250 I had to make my own which for a time became a hobby all by itself. 3/4" was optimum for most, the JMW wanted just 3/8".

RB-250 with mortise:

AT-1005 on Super, 3/4" was better:

The JMW mounted on a 1/4" aluminum, EAR SD-40 and wood veneer sandwich was frighteningly good in terms of treble detail and air while maintaining the bass weight of the Walnut.
