RE: Comparing vinyl sound to hi-res digital remaster

I have that McCartney 24/96 download as well, but unfortunately don't have the original LP to compare it to. The download sounds clean and resolving and without digititis-- but somewhat lifeless relative to better hi-res files.

Like John Elison I've lately been using a Tascam DA-3000 to record LPs to DSD128. Playback of those files through a microRendu into an Esoteric K-01X DAC is really close, but not indistinguishable, from the recorded LP played back entirely in the analog domain on the turntable used for the recordings(AT ART7 or Accuphase AC-5> SME 3012R or Kuzma 4P> Luxman PD444> modified Pass XP-25.) The recordings are less convincing but still quite good when played back through the Tascam's internal DAC. As a monitor during the recording process, the Tascam DAC is good enough to make listening easily tolerable while working through the recording process. And that is key if one is working through a large collection in real time. Life is too short.

Each recording of an LP reminds me that there is one less purchase of a digital download to justify.
