RE: Comparing vinyl sound to hi-res digital remaster

I agree about the importance of the mastering, but I remain in the dark about comparing digital vs vinyl playback per se I don't know when the mastering is changed and when it isn't.

I was led to believe that any shortcoming of CDs is down to 'lossy' format. In other words, many claim that if you record (or convert) to 24 bit/96 kHz resolution, and then dither down to 16 bit/44.1 kHz resolution, some information gets lost in the process. According to them, if you were to go back to the original hi-res format, everything will sound much better, and will be able to match and even beat vinyl.

But this side-by-side comparison showed me that digital resolution plays little role in the quality of the sound. Like you said, it's all down to mastering.
