It is likely that what you are preferring is the mastering job done for the vinyl vs. the mastering job done for the Hi-res.
So, IMO, this is not a condemnation of Hi-res digital but instead a condemnation of the guy who did the mastering for the digital.
Makes sense. But if true, then we will never be able to compare the two formats. Which also makes sense -- it's like comparing sushi to cabbage rolls. Some prefer sushi, some prefer cabbage rolls, hard to say which is better.
