Using a mixture of 25 per cent 91% pure alcohol, 75% distilled water, and either a few drops of Kodak Photo-Flo, or a neutral pH detergent. I've used this recipe for 40 years to clean my records. You have to have surfactants in any cleaner so the surface tension of the water is lowered and it soaks into the grooves of the record. And finally, a mechanical record cleaning machine that vacuums the record clean and dry is essential for best results. Store-bought devices can get a little pricey. There are many DIY machine on the web. I built mine out of an old vac motor, some PVC, and old laminated counter top material. I have records that are from the mid 60's that have been cleaned many times and sound like new. (And to my knowledge, I've never been afflicted with brittle grooves.)
