RE: Ella from 1956 vs. Alison in 2016

If you haven't already heard Ella on a period mono press of
"Let no man write my Epitaph" 1960, you're missing what many reviews consider top of her game. It was the soundtrack of a movie made,. Major stars-Olson Wells,Shelly Winters(when she was young,Ricardo Montalbon...and Ella's debut as a heroin addicted torch singer in a dive bar. Excellent, undated movie.

Pretty heavy duty subject matter, with Ella's hypnotic singing. The songwriting is amazing as well.

The songbook orchestra stuff is good, but hearing Ella in a more intimate setup-Ella and piano, makes you understand what all the fuss is about mono. The realism factor is huge
listening on a serious rig.

"Clap hands, here comes Charlie(mono) also is essential. Ella and simple quartet arraingement.

Personally, since I have clean original mono presses of my favorite divas, those pricey reissue 45s or 33's are not worth the expense.

AK as a contemporary artist is. great. Her album with Robert Plant also, very cool. I will listen to her over Adele,Gaga young pop gals. None simply hold my interest. Reality, I don't listen to any of them.

All contemporary artist are just that... contemporary artist. Not in the same class as Ella,Billie,Sarah....and other pre 70's divas.
