RE: AT3482P tracking force?

Which pressing do you have? The original 1999 pressing or the 2012 repress? The matrix codes are the same. There is a 2016 repress that uses a new cut.
The cutting engineer for the A-side is THE George Peckham (aka Porky! hence "A Porky Prime Cut") and I have a few of his 12" cuts and they all sounded good. The B-side is Simon Davey of The Exchange. His stuff is usually good. I listened to the track on YouTube and I think I can have a guess at why people are complaining about the distortion on the A-side. He does cut his 12" singles loud and combined with the wide bandwidth of the sounds, it is EXTREMELY challenging for a cartridge to replay given the deep deep LFO and punchy HF rich discordant sounds. It would present a challenge to even the best cartridge and would really test the tracking ability. I'm pretty sure the problem with your cartidge is the LF modulation of the midband and HF range. Plus any weakness in the cartridge suspension will cause it to mistrack further exacerbating the problem....just a wild guess!

Let me know which pressing you have - I think I'm going to have to get myself a copy! I'm really curious now to see what my cartridge will do with it :) It could be a useful Test Disc!!
