Technics SL 1301 tone arm effective mass questions . . .

I'm having fun with my new old SL-1301 but have a question or two:

The specifications in the Operating Instructions state that the Effective mass of the tone arm is 22 grams with 6 gram cartridge weight. Separately, they list the headshell weight as 9.5 grams.

I'm struggling a bit with this calculation. Is this a particularly high effective mass tone arm? How does it compare to the SL 12XX tables?

I noticed some lateral jiggle over a warp in a record with my Audio Technics AT13ea cartridge, which I understand is high compliance but has a reputation of working well on lots of arms. Sounds very good to me. It's lively. On the bright side but not fatiguing.

I just installed a Shure M97xe and even without the brush down it seems like a better match. Or perhaps I just enjoy its sonic signature more. It's still quite lively, but fuller and richer in in the midrange and bass.
