Thanks to the helpful advice over the past two days from you all in my earlier post, I* was able to set up an AT13ea cartridge on my newly acquired Technics SL-1301. So far so good.I* have initially relied on the Technics alignment tool in accordance with the SL-1301 Operating Instructions. For now, I* have the VTF and anti-skate set at 1.5 grams. Arm looks nice and parallel to the record and the cantilever angle looks about right.
I'm going to let it run in through a number of records and then tweak the settings. I'll also print out a protractor to check the aligment, but was struggling a bit in finding one that seemed right for a Technics arm. And anyway, it sounds nice and clear from the outer groove to the end.
I find the SL-1301 to be a subtly gorgeous table with that late-1970s-futuristic-look. Love the clean angled sides of the platter and the separate stroboscope. Speed is showing at a consistent 33.32 and seemingly no drift. My first ever DD table, and a somewhat rare one at that!
I want to thank Inmate Volunteer for selling me a great table with some included set-up goodies at a fair price and patiently answering some questions I had. Good man!
* With respect to set-up, when I say, "I", I actually mostly mean my awesome wife, who, with some supervision from me, patiently exercised her vastly superior hand-eye coordination and steadiness . . . and patience. Wow. Love her!
