One of the worst places to put a rack of audio equipment is in between the loudspeakers. Not only will reflections of the sound play havoc with proper stereo imaging but there is also a psychological effect. Our eyes are considerably more dominant than our ears and such a setup easily results in our "hearing" the sound as emanating from the equipment rather than from the illusion intended.

For some placing their equipment in such a location cannot be avoided for space reasons. For those who have that situation it is preferable if the total height of the equipment stack does not exceed the lower 30% of the speaker or speaker and stand.

In the OP's case there appears to be good location at the side of the sofa. Yes this may mean a slighly longer run of speaker wire but I guarantee to him that the result will be worth it.

Bellingham. Nice place I recall. The OP is near to MikeL then ( though he rarely posts here these days). BTW there is another Bellingham about 2 miles away from from me - in London UK.
