The difficulty the OP faces in assessing whether the arm and cartridge are a good match in terms of resonance is going to be complicated by the fact that the Vinyl Engine database does not list the arm and the manufacturers do not specify the effective mass (!).I have played around with the figures for a cart with a 15 cu compliance and a mass of 12/13 g ( have to add in the mounting hardware too) over a range of reasonable arm masses that the Clarify is likely to fall into ( unless it is a very odd beast). The resonance figures all look good.
So I don't think that a significant mismatch of arm and cartridge is likely to be his problem.
Users appear to prefer a VTF of 2.5g and his initial weight of 2.3g may be too low but I think that he has discovered that.
I would suggest that he rechecks all of the alignment settings and pay some attention to anti-skate.
However this is a rebuilt cartridge with a new cantilever/stylus. The OP mentions the distortion occuring only on specific frecords. I would guess that one cause may be that these discs have been damaged at some stage but that his previous cartidge had a stylus profile that found a spot in the groove where the damage was not audible. However the rebuilt EMT has a different stylus profile which is landing on the damaged portion.
