RE: AT95e: seeking engineering data

I put an AT-95Eb (all black version- the green looks unbelievably cheezy) on a turntable I set up for my boss (-!-) a Denon DP-47f. Turned out to be a sweet combination and the sound was damn good through my big rig. A little zippy but decently balanced octave-to-octave and detailed without being "etched" or too fat in the mids (like the low-line Grados, IMO). To get much more performance you might need to add $100 to get a shibata-family tip shape.

It may be my private, crotchety belief but designing a phono cartridge brings with it a massive set of tradeoffs in the materials, structure, geometry, electromagnetic components, circuitry, etc etc. So at any manufacturer's price point, you get a particular "voice" from the blending of the selected tradeoffs. No phono cartridge is totally neutral. The AT-95 voice just works. I want to believe in giant-killers; I'd go as far to say the 95 performs well above it's cost.

You might consider buying more than one or buying one from a dealer that will handle returns, since at this mass-production price there may be QC problems. I saw none with the one I bought fro LP Gear however.
