RE: Any implications?

No record pressing plants are not 'clean rooms'. They don't need to be.

It is a clean and tidy operation. Yes it is all handled by people, wearing gloves, etc. I am not concerned with contamination since the chances of any real contamination are remote. These people take great pride in what they produce and the process is quite clean and great effort goes into producing a clean record. If there is some minor contamination, dust, etc. it is easily removed with the swipe of a carbon fiber brush.

Prior to early 60s record were not typically shrink wrapped. Generally the record itself was placed in a sealed plastic bag. The switch to shrink saved money. But this bit of history is irrelevant we are talking about modern production records. 1960s era records have not been made since the 1960s!

If cleaning a brand new record makes one feel good then do it. It accomplishes basically nothing other than making the user feel better the record was clean when it was produced and delivered.

Hysteria and OCD behavior is alive and well in audiophile land. Records and record care is one area in particular were it runs wild! Much if not all of it is based on speculation, rumors, myth.
