I had a Jico SAS which I couldn't align correctly on a heavier arm and sold it. The Shure car sat around whispering to me from the shelf when I walked by. So I went and bought a generic 4771-DE [.0002x.0007] and it was really pretty good. And when things are pretty good they can always get better but having a negative experience with the SAS [not the stylus fault, mine] I opted for LPGear's VIVID.
The Shure this time is riding on an inexpensive Pioneer PL-7 with a light arm. And the cartridges plastic is all trimmed away. No need for the damper.
Detail level really high and very smooth. All Shure mid-range still in place. Bass notes are un-anchored and free in space, pebbly detail and all. ZERO sibilance. The most enjoyable detail is the inner micro detail. Tremolo on voices, fingers on strings, and movement of valves on trumpets. Overall the sound is free and open, unfettered.
As good as the SAS? The SAS had a certain something but I didn't have it aligned right and had it on a heavier arm. I know the damper allows you to use it on a heavier arm but when the chance comes to use the right mass... The SAS may sound better but I am very happy with the VIVID for now. Satisfaction level = 11.
