The Lamb comes last.

They're all art pieces. The Lamb has a larger vision, a greater focus and is much more thematic in nature. It's the culmination of the previous albums, but doesn't supplant any one of them - think of it more as one of their possible destinations.

As with The Wall, it's a concept album that's difficult to extract any part from as it detracts from the whole.

I don't think your question can be answered the way you might like. If you follow Genesis, there's a progression that moves along in fits and starts with a few bypasses and detours but with a clear and recognizable talent that struggles to fully express itself.

You don't need a reason to like Genesis, and you don't have to be able to explain to anyone else why you do. That being said, when I play their music, I reach more often for Trespass than anything else. It's more introspective and contemplative in nature than the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, not quite as insistent.

The Lamb is Gabriel's swan song, after he left there is no Genesis.
