another strange problem that could be a clue. a friend of mine recently bought a new expensive cartridge, a higher level of a brand he had been using. he discovered that this one had magnets that were incredibly powerful as compared to any of the other high-line cartridges he has had. near the center of records, the cartridge on his unipivot tone arm would shake drastically. it was later discovered that the table maker had used "ferrous" bolts underneath that spot in the platter and this cartridge's magnets were so strong that they were reacting to that. the maker replaced those bolts with non-ferrous bolts and the problem was solved. so, with that said, could the problem be related to the interaction between cartridge and table? pulling the magnets in the cartridge forcing the collapse?
