When you tighten the cartridge, the rubber is fully compressed into the same level as the metal headshell. It doe NOT form a gasket insulating the cartridge body from the headshell, unless of course you use extremely little pressure upon tightening the cartridge mounting screws.
This is from working on both the original Graham and the latest Phantom.
