It was an exciting dig, pawing through a huge accumulation of records that Lee had acquired at countless thrifts, antique shops, yard sales and auctions over the years. The Beatles Butcher Cover was the one that had my heart racing. Lee's taste runs narrowly towards EZ Listening, older Country Western and Classical, so his culls pile had a lot of great stuff in it. Lee's core collection of 2,500+ LPs is very nice.
The great thing about used records (in this case freebies, other cases dirt cheap) is the opportunity to listen to a multitude of artists and musical genres that one might not be exposed to when paying retail for new releases and being more selective. Some of these artists I'd never know were it not for finding their records at yard sales & thrifts, being open minded and taking a chance. I've discovered great artists like Esquivel, and then suddenly have "gaps" in the collection, where I need to acquire and listen to his other releases. There's no end to it really, as you know Mike.
The photographs were pretty quick and easy. I shoot at mid morning when the sun is about 45 degrees up in the sky. Lay out four LPs together on the driveway and shoot with a digital camera. Crop and resize in Photoshop. I like to document more notable 'scores' with photos and lists. I'm quite thorough with maintaining my collection spreadsheet. Good thing I can type fast.
