I second the idea of squash balls especially as you have a heavy plinth. That makes it somewhat like the VPI TNTs that now use squash balls in their suspensions. They are VERY effective. However, you will need cups I think. I would never do it without them, but I think you can easily fashion them yourself if you at all handy.
