I have 9" VPI Signature w/Valhalla wiring on a Scout in my showroom. Using the tools VPI provides, I've mounted 4 different carts and all of them have sounded great. The Azimuth rod you rest in the V groove has worked like a champ. I'm simply not having these issues, and I'm sensitive to inner groove distortion.
I also had a Clearaudio Performance SEP table in my showroom briefly before it was installed at a clients home and that arm was also a breeze, albeit a fixed pivot.
I'm not suggesting the issues discussed in this thread do not exist, but if it was somewhat commonplace for uni's to have azimuth issues, I for one wouldn't want to deal with it. That's aggravation without reward. Further, since most high end carts are hand made, it would seem that the weight of their motors would more often than not be unevenly distributed across the body of the cartridge, rending most of them useless on a unipivot.
