Cantilever alignment idea

What do you think of this cantilever alignment approach? This is for people working from a 2d alignment protractor.

I setup a cartridge and it didn't sound quite right. I realized that the stylus was not quite centered. I didn't want to take the table out again so I came up with this idea. I extended the lines ahead of the actual alignment block a couple of inches. I got a really small, bright, single led flashlight and ran a stripe down the length of it. I had a round one. It took a couple of globs of blu-tak to keep it from rolling.

I lined up the light source along that extended line and positioned the stylus. I was eventually able to find a good position along that line for the light. The right place is the spot where the light casts the shadow of the stylus out past the end of the alignment box. You could see whether that line diverged. Instead of trying to line things up to the tiny cantilever, you had a longer shadow to use to see when things were true. Trying to get a good position to view the cantilever alignment on the inner setting can be difficult, but seemed okay using this method.

You may have to use tape to reduce the size of the beam for a distinct shadow. It seems like this would lend itself to a coherent light alignment system based on matching beam width and cantilever width.

Based on what we are hearing, I'd say it was pretty accurate.
