I've found 78s at Goodwills in at least two states. Don't count on the workers knowing how to properly handle shellac though, most of the ones I've found are smashed. If the ones your looking at disposing of are just a step above trash, then Goodwill away, but if they have some value (musical or monetary), try to find a collector or a record store that will take them.
