Spinning Now: Sleigh Bells, Paul Simon, Grant Green

I picked up a few new records today. "Treats" by Sleigh Bells...I have to say, this is an intense album that a lot of people here are likely to think is annoying as hell. The songs are pretty and catchy pop tunes, wrapped up in a mess of super compressed digital noise. The compression is intense, but is definitely used as special FX. There is still some space in the mixes, so I think individual noises and tracks are compressed as hell and then mixed. It sounds way better than I suspected it would on vinyl. Whoever mastered it did a good job. Even with 5-6 songs a side, there's a good inch of dead wax on each side. There's a link to a song so you can get an idea of what they sound like at the end of the post. If you like this tune, I'd definitely recommend picking this up.

I also picked up a "Graceland" left over from Record Store Day. Haven't listened to it, yet, but I'm pretty excited to. And after that, I'll probably give another spin to the King pressing of Grant Green's "Matador" I got in the mail a day or two ago. Beautiful music, and a cover in the style of the covers Andy Warhol did in the 50's for Blue Note(but honestly I think this cover is better). It showed up on ebay buy it now, it wasn't exactly cheap, but I knew it was likely to be the best price I'd see for it, at least for a while.
