Just over four years ago, analog guy distributed a CD recorded from both a mono and a stereo cartridge for comparison. It made me a believer in the capabilities of a stereo cartridge to sound just like a mono cartridge when using the mono switch with the stereo cartridge. It was easy to hear the difference when listening to the CD without the mono switch because the noise (clicks and pops) was in stereo while the music was in mono. However, when engaging the mono switch, the recordings sounded nearly identical. Any differences can probably be attributed solely to different cartridge brands and models.
