the loricraft can be one of the best rcm's when it's working properly. your metal clamp/vaseline suggestion is actually the kind of thing i found frustrating about it when i had one though. from things like finding o rings to fit the thread spindle to make it work well to finding a way to dampen the arm to keep it from hitting the thread plate to with even having the arm balanced correctly the occasional leaving spots of fluid on the record to when using just a little too much fluid having it spin off the record are just a few of the things i found to be a little too finicky.
if it hadn't been for suggestions from other users, like yourself in this thread, i also wouldn't have had the ways to fix the small problems that came up when i had a loricraft. i've never needed those kinds of suggestions with either of the vpi rcm's i've had.
