the chassis is damped very strongly already. There are only a few square inches of the inside of the player that are not covered in rope caulk. I added that in several stages, and in each case I can only say it increased sound quality. I don't think you can go "over-dampen" a 5 lbs CD player tin box. There may be a difference with a heavy duty high-end mechanism, but this chassis was designed by bean counters. Adding damping has been a good thing.I think I'll try things with just a few dabs of caulk connecting the plate and if that's horrible (it's going to be more wobbly than caulking the entire surface nice and neat), I'll consider cutting up the plate into smaller contact plates for each bearing location.
I'll post my findings once I get the plate, which may be tonight
