Maple would be nice, but six maple shelves are out of my price range. I hear what you're saying about the aesthetics and correct proportions. But, I'm used to being surrounded by tall, steel, 19" equipment racks, so 51" h x 24" w shelves seem perfectly fine to me - just one of my mental defects I'm afraid.As for the "sound" of MDF - no I don't have any idea what my system will sound like on this shelf system. It couldn't be any worse than what I'm using now! And, there will always be a rev 1.11 shelf system in the future! Who knows, I may end up storing cans of spray paint and motor oil on this rack out in the garage.
Hmmm, my next door neighbors have a really nice maple tree. Maybe when they go on vacation...
