For one reason, I didn't cut them in half because I wanted as much damping as possible. For another, mounting a component on a flat base provides virtually no damping in the horizontal plane. It's not just the vertical vibrations we're trying to deal with. It's for these reasons that all those very expensive damping devices and many of the DIY devices discussed here use spheres.Regards,
