After cleaning Cramolyn Red may be applied to the commutator. Caig makes various abrasive compounds for cleaning large commutators. Large brushes may be soaked in Red (three weeks was recommended) and the excess cleaned off the surface before installing. Reduced arcing and RFI were noted benefits. Many brush assy are sintered, some use binders, it is up to you to determine compatibility with the later.
