Excellent review! Like you I have been using the AI for some time and now consider it to be an indispensible tweek. Here are a few tips I have found that maximize the benefits of the Illuminator:

First, wash the disc to be treated in lukewarm water using a mild dish detergent (I like Dawn best - cuts grease). Rinse and dry carefully with a non-abrasive cloth. Soft old baby diapers work great. At this point you can optionally demagnitize the disc with a bulk tape eraser if you like - I have found this to be an additional beneficial tweak. Then blacken the inner and outer edge of the disc with the marking pen - two coats preferred.

Now on to the actual application of the Illuminator. Lay the disc flat on a soft towel on a table or other hard surface. Apply a drop or two of the Illuminator to the "play" side of the disc and gently swirl it around so that the entire surface is completely covered. Then flip over the polishing cloth and buff to a light shine. At this point I like to switch to a new, clean polishing cloth for final buffing. When the first cloth begins to become saturated I dispose of it and use the final buffing cloth for applying the Illuminator and start a new buffing cloth. The trick to final buffing is to polish radially from the center to the edge of the disc, increasing downward pressure until you feel the suface start to warm and the cloth starts to "bite". Getting the cloth to grab is critical to achieving the full benefit from the Illuminator - giving the surface a light buffing won't have nearly as dramatic an effect. Repeat this procedure for side two and you're done.

Applying this tweak takes a bit of effort, but the improvement is definitely time well spent. If anyone has any other tips for using it, or has tried it in combination with other CD tweaks, please post your results.
