Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
I thought this would be a good question for the tweakers. I'm currently planning on some mods for a SET I've built. It has two power supplies, one small DC supply for the filaments on the 300Bs, and another for everything else. The filaments are the cathodes on 300Bs and are in the signal path, so I want to clean up the supply going there. The question is, it now has conventional diodes in the rectifying bridge, what type of diode would be the best choice? I have conflicting advice some folks say, FREDs, some say high efficiency, and some say Schottky Barrier because they don't ring at all. The voltage is very low in this supply, about 5V. I was also planning on replacing the electrolytic caps with Black Gates, and replacing the .8 ohm dropping resistor with 2 small chokes, one on the positive leg, another on the negative leg. I figure that the tweakers out there would have a lot of experience with such things. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm kind of confused with the conflicting advice on the diodes.twystd
