You seemed to have gone further than most of us, in having sanded off the coating and refinish them via polishing the base metal, I've to assume.
Yet as a few of us have found some very very nice sounding cables and power cords produced in China, I for one can't write them off based upon political biases as it stands, as one has to assume their are plenty of Asian music lovers | Audiophiles, whom are some point are entitled to learn how to create wonderful sounding products, be they electronics or cabling, and as I know it many from Taiwan have always been avid tweaker's and are very advanced in the art of system setup, where Americans have came rather late to said system details.
Culturally in my mind it isn't where any given item is built..., it's the implementation behind the designers mind. The Viborg RCA connectors for example are extremely well thought out and designed, won't you say?, of which I've used for several years now in voicing overly bright, or rolled off IC's.
