RE: Approach with caution...

I tried damping the inside of my Power amp and Preamp years ago, I didn't care for the results and like you it killed the sound. I tried then adding mass to the top of the preamp/power amp. That changed the sound in a direction didn't care for as well. I then tried the 1ct. tweak on the input of the IEC inlet where the power cord would connect putting a penny on top of the connector. that had a slight change to the sound but I didn't like that either.

The only tweak for isolation that I actually like and it worked really well in my system was those isolation blocks with rubber and cork in the middle. That has been the biggest improvement to date in my system. I put them under every piece of gear I had and it was a really nice improvement.

I didn't do like you with the isolation inside the amp and preamp. I didn't play around enough to find just the right amount to be effective and maybe would have had a better experience with it. Maybe I should return to that and play with the amount of damping to see how it works.
