humble Hubbell 5262

I believe in a lot of audio mumbo-jumbo, but I didn't think an outlet could make a significant difference. I had put in new P&S outlets of decent quality when I had a dedicated line installed, so I really didn't expect much benefit. I'm not afraid to admit I was wrong.

So far I have replaced only the outlet for my two monoblock power amps. The new Hubbell sounded a bit bright at first, but has now settled down to provide more clarity and body. There is a bit more edge to high and mid frequencies, but it is integral to the signal and not additional brightness but better definition. Seems to allow more space and air around instruments, and voices and individual instruments among groups (massed strings) have become much clearer and fuller, similar to hearing a good remastering compared to an older version. I can better understand lyrics. Even the bass has a bit more impact because there are some upper midrange transients involved in that.

Second outlet arrived today, but I'll need to move the equipment stack to get at that one. Might be a while...

For now, this one replacement is enough to hold my interest. No cryo, nothing fancy other than the brass strap, just an excellent $6.50 investment and very pleasant surprise.

Peace,
Tom E
