I want to be sure I got it right: do you mean that I should take an RCA interconnect cable and connect one end to one RCA input of the amp, and the other end to the other RCA input, so that the two RCA inputs are "joined" by the interconnect cable ?

No, reading again your message I think you meant I should take two RCA connectors (no cable in between) and "plug" the amp inputs, ain't it ?

OK, I'll try, but I'm quite sure it's the amp, as I've done many other tests, including that suggested by awe-d-o-file.
In synthesis, if I have only the power amp connected to the mains and to the speakers (no interconnects connected, no other component even connected to the mains), I hear hum.
