Why would you want to vary the spring rate of the spring or the resonant frequency (of the system)? Wouldn't you want the lowest possible spring rate for a given load, thus the lowest resonant frequency? The performance of the spring is determined by its spring rate, whereas the resonant frequency of the isolating system is determined by the total spring rate of all the springs and the mass.
