I tried it out as a preamp in the system just for kicks, and wow. So now I have it in the system for good. Have the CD player going directly into it. Sounds great. All my other sources are still running into my regular preamp, which is connected to the other input of the passive. So I have full switching and control over the other sources, while maintaining a pure "CD direct" path. I could not be more pleased.
Funny how something built on the cheap just to add an extra input has caused a paradigm shift in my thinking.
Was thinking about building a bigger 6-input version, but I dont really want to give up the features on my preamp, and I don't think I've the skills to build one with all the features. But I think I may build a higher quality version of the one I have and keep the same setup. It's really working for me.
