RE: Suggestions for inexpensive tweaks/upgrades to improve system

I see that you are using Herbie's and I have not tried his products--yet.
I know it's crazy, but I am using a carborundum blade 12" that costs about 8 bucks from Lowes as a turntable mat. I wrapped it at clock number points with teflon tape to protect the vinyl from the abrasive surface. It's the best DIY i've tried yet.
Tube rolling has to be pretty big, I really enjoy the new TungSols and now have them all (EL34, Ax7, AU7) and prefer their midrange punch.
Another oddball tweak, finding Barry Controls vibration isolators (used for military)on Ebay and finding the right weight rating and putting them under my speakers (3 ea. side) and tube amp and cd player but not the turntable. This tweak especially on the speakers, really surprised me how much the imaging and bass tightend up. Highly recommended.
Am using crystals, but now without removing them I can't comment except to say I WAS hearing more detail and bloom.
Audiofile fuses (I got some from ebay as well) seem to further clarify the soundstage and timber.
Have fun!
