Why would you replace a discrete, stepped attenuator with .1% 25ppm SMT resistors with a carbon or plastic track of varying thickness?
You're going to lose resolution and channel balance to name two downsides and when it wears out or gets noisy/dirty good luck.
What you're thinking about is a step backwards in my view.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
