I would be a bit concerned about the cone points making contact with only a thin veneer over a foam substrate. DIY coupling surfaces suitable for the task might be simple laminated bamboo coasters adhered via Permatex Clear RTV Silicone to the bottom of the Ikea Lack in the areas where the points make contact. Additionally, laminated bamboo is an excellent material for direct interface with metal cone tips, with superior performance when associated metal coupling discs are omitted, IME.See link:
