Yes, you are correct, you need to match the "springiness" of the springs to the load - I.e., the springs should be designed with their application in mind. There should be a smooth undulating motion to the platform when you press down on the top plate and release it. The best isolation comes with the ease of motion of the platform when put into motion. You can measure the cycles per second of this up and down motion, ideally the motion should be around 2-4 complete cycles per second. My springs are designed to provide 2 Hz resonance freq. and compress about an inch under load.
