RE: DIY rack design

I suspect that most efforts to construct racks will will be unable to exceed the SONIC performance of even relatively simple but proficient vibration isolation stands, I.e., mass-on-spring type, mounted directly on the FLOOR. The reason I say this is because the rack itself will be excited by the structural vibration, amplifying the problem and making matters worse than with no rack at all. The rigidity and mass and damping of the rack will not be effective in preventing the structural vibration - especially the low frequency vibration - from migrating up into the electronics on the rack. Now, if one is determined to build a rack for esthetic or other reasons, then mass-on-spring isolation systems should be constructed on the rack shelves.
