V-Pods have their place (I own them), but they are the anti-thesis of a properly inplemented Lack shelf.
The Lack shelf is cheap, but it requires more effort, on your part, if improved sound quality is what you are after.
Otherwise V-Pods will perform much better under an MDF or wooden cutting board type shelf (tried various combos years ago and have first hand experience).
V-Pods under a Lack and/or my Neuance shelfs are a disaster in that they negate the benefits of the light ridged material/concept.
