Agreed..Pics are tough to decipher...

On the R channel, the WHT wire from the GND terminal on the right PCB is on the ground pin of the input RCA jack. Red is hot.

On the L channel, the RED wire from the GND terminal on the left PCB is on the ground pin of the input RCA jack. White is hot.

(When I get some )I'll replace the ground wires with black, but from an electrons' POV it doesn't matter... :o)

Its a ground conundrum (for me) for sure...when I lift/remove the ground from the left side, the left passes a signal...
