Firstly, you shouldn't have wasted your time braiding Cat5 cables. You could've bought Belden 1585lc (all teflon insulation, including the jacket) and used one wire in each twisted pair as '+ve' and the other as '-ve'.
Or you could've bought Belden 1585a and stripped the PVC jacket off and done the same thing. (These are pretty seriously good speaker cables. :-)) )
However, if you want to "go over to the dark side" then FFS don't use 12g magnet wire ... I personally wouldn't go any thicker than 21g - so use several strands each run, if you really think you need the cross-sectional area.
