For 4 #12 awg wires use a red or grey. Even though the white paper in the link says twisting is not required I would recommend twisting the solid conductors tightly together first. Practice a few times on some spare conductors to get the hang of twisting the solid conductors together before actually making up the intended joints.
Do not use over a spring wire connector. Use new unused for your final termination. For a nice twisted joint I recommend you buy a pair of side cutters.
In your practice joint you will find if you strip the wires about an inch long, align the insulation, and then twist in a clock wise rotation the conductors will form a nice spiral twist. After twisting the conductors cut them off even leaving about 5/8" copper for the red Scotchlok and about 3/4" for the grey.
Buchanan, Ideal also makes a nice spring wire connector.
Stay away from the cheap hard plastic wirenut connectors.
