Re: RGPC Pro400 condioner - a mini review. Part 1.

I got my Richard Gray before Stereophile ran its negative review about six years ago. I think that the review caused such a flap because it was only the third time on record that Stereophile wasn't convinced that something that they reviewed wasn't "as good as units costing at least twice as much". I took the review to heart because after all, if even Stereophile didn't like it, there must be something seriously wrong with the thing. So every so often, I take it out of my system, but it always ends up going back in, because it ends up making the system sound better. The biggest change that I notice is a more enveloping soundstage, and also the sensation that the music is generally more vivid. I've decided that Richard Gray, or someone else at the Power Company must have had "relationship" issues with the reviewer at Stereophile.

Incidentally, I feed the RGPC with a nice Electraglide Epiphany power cord. This ends up influencing everything in the system that is further downstream (everything plugged into the RGPC), and has a substantial and positive effect on the sound. If you're contemplating further AC enhancements, I would strongly suggest a very good quality power cord. It took a fair amount of experimentation before I became sold on the Electraglides. Some PCs barely made any difference; others dulled the sound, flattened the soundstage, or in one case made the sound so piercingly aggressive that the system was pretty much unlistenable. Of course what worked in my system may lay an egg in yours, but I would recommend listening to one of the newer Electraglides--an Ultrakhan or an Epiphany.
