SMPS regulation .Technical question re Diodes

88.104.214.173

Hi
Having just had some great success with Stillpoints cloth in a Denon 3910 I was looking at the Switched Mode Power supply which has three (+) Regulators on its main board.
Each of these has a very small diode accross the input and output of these 78-- series regulators..I was wondering about replacing these with shottky diodes ,I had also considered putting faster Audiocom super regs or equivelent there
Can anyone explain what they are doing in the circuit?
The Schottkys would be higher rated. So if the originals are there for some limiting/safety purpose I dont want to mess around.
I have previously upgraded the Mains Diodes to Stealth and most of the Capacitors are Black Gates NX etc..

Any Opinions would be appreciated.Dave
