HiI am converting to lead free solder, and I am in a learning process with the new solder. I chose Cardas Tri Eutectic (tin/silver/copper), and Cardas Rosin Flux.
I use a Weller Wecp-20 soldering station which has a temeperature range from 150-450 degrees C (302-842 F).
It is the first time I use Flux paste.
I have started practicing with 18 AWG solid core copper leads which I have cut in small pieces and soldering them togehter. Before soldering, I clean the ends with kontakt cleaner, and tin the ends.
The tip is tinned before with WBT tin/lead/silver solder.
What I have come to so far is that this solder is different to work with compared to ordinary solder. It doesn't flow that good, so I have to apply solder precisly in the joint. I am not able to get the shining look of a good joint. The joint seems to have a good "shape", but not shiny. I have tried tip temp from 400F to 840F, and it seems the best temp is around 590F.Any comments to my results so far?
Anyone who has experience with this solder?
How does a good solder joint look with Cardas lead free?
And how do I apply the flux?Hope you can help me on the way.
